Introduction:
Many people don't know about the culture of Vietnam and may not even know anything about vietnam but the culture of Vietnam may interest you because you can read and learn about the culture of a very small country in Asia.



Language:
In Vietnam Vietnamese is the most spoken language. In Vietnam if you change the tone in your voice the slightest bit you can be saying something completely different.




Greetings:
In Vietnam you are not allowed to cross your fingers for good luck because it is considered an obsene gesture. Vietnamese people rarely ever show any public affection such as hugging or kissing. If you maintain a good mood then the people around you usually have one too. If you are to go to something formal or semi formal you must not wear a t-shirt or anything casual you must dress up because in Vietnam they maintain a conservative dress code.


Tone of voice:
In Vietnam when your talking and you say a word in a different way like if you say it softer that word can mean a totally different word.


Non-Verbal Communication:
In Vietnam if you nod your head it can mean a greeting, agreement, or disagreement. If you bow it means great respect or a greeting. Winking is not acceptable. Frowning means frustration, anger, or worry. If you smile it can mean an agreement, embarrasment or disagreement.


Definition of obscenity:
Vietnams definition of obscenity is crossing you fingers, touching a childs head, having anything to do with drugs, Showing an abundant amount of public affection, and not wearing the proper clothing.


Courtesy:
In Vietnam respect is a huge form of courtesy. The effort to spare others from humilation. To save someone from enduring public ridicule and decision in the midst of their community is also a huge form of courtesy.



Body Language:
Summoning someone with a curled index finger is only done by the boss. To beckon someone, extend your arm, palm down, and move your fingers in a scratching motion. Men and women do not show affection in public, however if you are the same gender you may hold hands. If you are passing an object to someone else always pass it with two hands. If your going to touch a child on the head you can only be the parents or the grandparents of the child.



Personal Space:
Living Space is close. In Vietnam they are usually in tiny dwellings with the entire families living there together, often in one big universal room.


Rules of Conduct:
In Vietnam there is no legal drinking age. The legal smoking age in Vietnam is 18 and they are enforcing that rule very well. If you have anything to do with drugs in anyway shape or form you might have to serve a life sentence in jail or you might be given the death penalty.


Touching:
In Vietnam you are not allowed to touch a child's head unless you are that child's parents or grandparents. Men and women touching in public is frowned upon. If you are the same sex it is ok to hold hands while walking. It is ok to have some touching while in conversation. Overall touching is frowned upon.


Eye Contact:
In Vietnam indirect eye contact is tended to be favored rather than direct eye contact because they consider direct eye contact as suspicious or threatening.

Concept of Time:
In Vietnam Vietnamese people view time in a more relaxed way for the most part. They are more concerned about the person then the speed in which they get their jobs done.


Tempo of Work:
In Vietnam there is a more laid back tempo of work. They don't rush things to get done because they have a more relaxed concept of time so they don't rush things.


Ideals of childrearing:
A child is cared for and educated from early childhood. Children learn from early stage to keep the family discipline and honor.


Notions of Leadership:
In Vietnam there notion of leadership is communism.


Notions of adolescence:
There notion of adolescence is that they are taught early in life and are taken care of since they were babies so that they will become intelligent adults. The age to be considered a adult in Vietnam is 17-22 years of age.


Preference for competition or cooperation:
Vietnam prefers cooperation because they are a small country and they need allies so that they dont get invaded.
